Processed these two the other day, which were taken a day or so later than my Nuthatch shot (I think). Have to say that the hide is proving its weight in gold and allows me to get closer to the birds than I anticipated.
These are Greater Spotted Woodpeckers (juveniles);
both @ ISO1000

I was also witness to a very sad incident where I saw a Green Woodpecker get attacked by what I thought was a Sparrowhawk, but that actually turned out to be a Goshawk!
I heard a dreadful commotion behind the hide, a real 'fear stricken' screaming sound from a bird, and ventured out of the hide to see if I could spot what had happened. I saw the Green Woodpecker being pecked by what I originally thought was a Sparrowhawk, but the raptor spotted me as I was crouching down in the undergrowth hoping desperately to get a shot, and he flew off - leaving the hapless Woody to suffer. I was torn, but left nature to its course - the Woody did manage to scramble along the ground to the longer grass adjacent to the location I was at. I managed this shot as he struggled for air!

I am certain that the Goshawk would have found him again and finished what he started.
