  • My first attempt at tonemapping (the garrie look!)

Well ive been an admirer of garrie's style for some time so i thought i would try a spot of tonemapping. Luckily it was pretty door in glencoe yesterday so proved the perfect time to start.

I like it, the original raw came out horrid with the clouds looking like mist, the end result certainly helps recreate the grim feeling. techinically not great but i like the feel, the first of many attempts i think. Just played with the sliders ina very no scientific way

You've certainly got the "Garrie look" in the sky!

    Was this done in Photomatix?

I could criticise the composition or cropping, but the fact is you've brought out the best in the clouds. All in all a creditable effort!
I've travelled the Glencoe road many, many times in all weathers, and it always spooks me!

Hi Scanny, you've done a great job of the clouds, i always have trouble with the clouds for some reason. Have fun playing about with HDR!

Thanks, last time i was there it was a crisp golden night so this time was a bit of an anti climax.

It was in photomatrix i tried to get similar in photshop but it didnt have the atmosphere, perfect reason to get photmatrix- im just fidling about trying to work out some reasonable combinations, it seem a useful tool, how have you got on using it hugh? I love the tones it produces, perfect for the winter in scotland I had a go at one of oban to, it makes it a little like a town from a horror mystery but it is intresting i think

Yup, that about sums up my last trip to Scotland...

But, like the others, I think you did a great job with the sky. Now just remember what you did with those sliders for next time!

Yes, a different take on the pretty harbour town!
I presume this was taken from the bottom end of Kerrera? I still own a flat in Oban....fond memories from when I lived and worked (sort of) there!
