One good Tern deserves another.

The other day one of our Common Terns put on a fantastic aerial display when fishing in the pond right in front of our visitor centre. I've tried to return the favour by recording his display.

















Not sure I was able to do him justice but I did try.

These are a nice series of photos which remind me of watching terns in Norfolk, I like no.3,6 and 7 the best.

I think you really did it justice, cracking shots. At first I thought you had a dirty sensor, then I realized it must be flies as the position changed on each frame. The last frame confirms it!

I think I'm getting there but still need more practice.

Dirty sensor? Olympus? You're quite right it was insects. The sky was full of them and the Swifts were scooping them up as quick as they could but the little blighters just keep coming. Actually the one in the last frame was a distant oof bird (Latin name Avius fuzzii).

I like that! I hope I can remember it, next time I get one of them too.

Nice set of a difficult bird. I like the last one - it hurts my shoulders only from looking at it.

Very nice shots Peter, the terns create some fantastic shapes during their aerial endeavours. My favourite is definitely the last one and I love your classification of the oof birdy

These shots are all quite large crops from shots taken at 100mm focal length. At 300mm I'm not agile enough to keep the bird in the frame. Must get fit.

Peter, I just have to respond to a title like that and I envy your effort.

The tern must surely be one of the most difficult birds to capture in flight as I learnt during my last trip to Tasmania.

I was somewhat too ashamed to post my results so I will do so shortly in a new thread which should make you feel a whole lot less apologetic for your own.
