  • DOF in the Garden

Late in the day, when the sun gets low and the lighting gets interesting:

Hand held, all of 'em. A certain manual macro lens

Lovely Dof and super detail. Is the second a gooseberry? or a poppy head?
The picture tells the story, great when you have a bad memory.DW.

      Excellent Pics,

Is that the certain Tamaron SP90...... I was to slow when it came up for sale on here a while back.............. I bet your glad to have her back. I must have been just posting my attempt at a Macro shot as you were posting yours, also using Legacy Glass. Although mine was done with a cowboy version of a Macro lens.

Yes, that is indeed a giant poppy, along with an Allium and a black Tulip. All of them are photographer's gifts with good lighting in my book.

Yes, it's the wonderful Tamron SP90. Manual focus is hard work and requires great care, but using that lens is such a tactile pleasure* that I forgive it's shortcomings....

*I originally bought this with a mechanical focus problem, so I stripped and cleaned it and lubricated the internals with lithium grease, so it has a lovely smooth feel.

Very nice Pete. I must dig my 90mm out and give my 85mm a rest.

I know what you mean about manual focus action Pete. My 4/3 glass is gathering dust, I've been using my manual focus primes almost exclusively for months.

I know Stephen. I now regret not keeping one of the 600mm I used to have.

As I've said before, I can have the appropriate gear but still be unable to do macros.

                              Many thanks, most kind :-)

Technique depends on the subject. I have a manual focus preset on the E-M5.

This enables IS on half press, and switches on the green magnify rectangle thing. If the subject is static then I use this method the set the focus really accurately - but it is best suited to tripods to be honest.

For stuff that sways about a bit I use the rocking method
