  • What a View !

We ambled along the fire trail through evergreen eucalypts on this late autumn afternoon.
    1.
In spite of a few days of rain last week the forest is still tinder dry and stony.
    2.
Along the way we saw lots of Grass Trees, this one in particular caught my eye, it was so full of personality.
    3.
The trail winds it way along a ridge so walking is easy and light until it reaches a knoll that leads to the lookout.
    4.
And then quite suddenly as we topped a rise we had arrived at our destination. It's a 5km walk but what a view !
    5.
The plains spread out before us to the south as far as the eye can see.
    6.

I just love the story you've told to accompany these photos. What a tree, and as you say, what a view!

      Thanks Stephen
Grass trees take hundreds of years to grow.
I have no idea as to why this one is lying horizontal. Most are vertical.

That view was worth the walk, but the walk looks to be worthwhile in itself. You get to some great places, Mark.

Pitfalls and Perils of Personal Portraiture!

The XZ-1 was precariously balanced and tethered by its wrist strap to a rotting stump as I gingerly set the
12 second timer and aimed it in the general direction of where I had chosen to pose for posterity.
Unfortunately I hadn't noticed the bush grass giving me the "No deal" sign.

Thanks for showing this area and explaining it. Into silly mode after a few hundred years growing it is just lying down for a rest?

                      Re: What a View !

Thanks Chevvy the return walk was fine since my fitness level is steadily improving after numerous autumn walks. Too hot and dangerous here to bushwalk in summer in 40C heat for months on end.

You guys don't appreciate how lucky you are!

Always interesting to follow your threads Mark, looks like this was a worth while walk, what a view!
An interesting series of images prior to the 'view' too , number 2 particularly caught my eye with the disparity between the left and right of the image, an interesting scene.

Been battling with a health issue Mark - so slow in response to this thread.
That is one VERY OLD Grass Tree!
Pouring with very welcome rain here at the moment so no weather for walking in the bush, but enjoyed your set.
