  • A Relaxing Week.

We spent a few days this week at Centre Parcs in Elveden Forest on the Suffolk/Norfolk border with our son and his young family. I wasn't sure what to expect (Butlins with trees?) but was very pleasantly surprised. In spite of being almost fully booked ( it apparently always is) it was still very tranquil whilst at the same time there were plenty of activities for the children.

Very relaxing, just what I needed.

Here's the "Villa" we had with SWMBO practising with the E-PL1.

Here's the view from the patio.

And in the evening, shame there wasn't a pretty sunset.

Another view of "our" lake (there are several).

There's plenty of wildlife which comes right up to the villas.
This Grey Heron landed right across the lake from us.

    Lot's of cheeky Squirrels.

A pair of Barnacle Geese visited every day and came right up onto the patio. These are from the feral population found in Norfolk and Suffolk and are present all year unlike the "true" wild birds which migrate to the Arctic to breed.

Surprisingly we saw very few of the small woodland birds which inhabit the adjacent Thetford Forest.

Overall a very pleasant and relaxing week, just what I needed.

I love that heron Peter. They are one of my favourite birds - they look so wise!
We don't get that one here, our Pied Heron would be the closest.
It looks like a great little get-away spot.

Great to see the squirrel striking that classic pose you see in paintings and drawings but not so often in photos.

One spent a long weekend there when the sprogs were a lot younger with five other families. Great fun.

I've worked hard to be this grumpy. It hasn't been easy at times but it's worth it.

Centre Parcs are marvellous with the children Sooo very much to do

Your fab images have reminded me of my aged children, when they were young at Sherwood Forest CP ... boy did it cost a few bob ... BUT for miles of smiles and early nights for the children as they were sooo tired out

and nice adult evenings by the BBQ embers chatting ... and sipping a little distilled water and fruit ... hic ! wine

                Thanks Chevvy.

We were very fortunate in that our son arranged this visit for us all as a surprise. However we all enjoyed it so much that SWMBO has already booked for us all to go again in October next year. Incredibly we have got the same villa that we had last week.

                Regards.

                      Re: A Relaxing Week.

I took my 3 sons there, each took a friend and I met up with my friend and her two children and their two friends We took "home cooked meals" for the freezer (me a Speg Bol for 12 and a cottage pie for 12) and she Lasagne and BBQ for 12 and we ate out 3 nights

We each took our own bicycles saved on bike hire and went horseriding at a friend of mine who lived at Beeston and happend to have enough ponies for her two sons and all our 10 and two of her finest horses for me and my friend ...

Skating ; Tennis ; Pedaloes ; Sailing ; Squash and ?? all cost £2.00 per 10 & 12 children/child ( we took my Beeston friends two boys back with us for two nights and 3 days then ... about 23 years ago ...

Ahhh ! I do so LURVE children ... especially other peoples who go home
