thought you may like see our local sculpture represents the shrovetide football hug, thats a crazy game with the goals 3 miles apart and as many players as you want. The whole town divides and takes part, very rough,in the river and across land anything goes. starts at 2.0pm and finishes at 10.0pm at night and alot of alchohol is drunk.
Good to see these local events supported. Are you still allowed to play, or have the dreaded Safety Police put the mockers on it yet ??
At a village I used to live in, we had the World Peashooting Championships every year, as many as 40 teams competed, then the SP declared it a potentially hazardous event and the Insurance went up by1000%,, despite the fact there had never been a claim, or an injury, in the 43 years it was insured.

health and safety gone mad, yes its still going very strongly supported and now its royal shrovetide i dought it will ever stop since prince charles turned the ball up .we have just had some commemorative crown derby ceramic balls made to show the event. I bought my wife one and there are only 300 made so will be very collectable.I,ll get a pic up soon
I didn't know that there was a sculpture depicting the game. I've been promising myself I'd go and watch for years now but I've never managed it. Love to see some shots of the game if you've got any.
