    Beauty - Pink Gerbera

and The Beast - Espostoa lanata (cotton ball cactus)

You may be amused to know that the cactus has to have it's regular shampoo to keep it's "hair" pristine. If you have never shampooed a cactus.........it is tricky!

    Both with 35mm.

Nature at two extremes, and very well recorded too. How big is that cacti?
The picture tells the story, great when you have a bad memory.DW.

Hi Imag - My father gave me this cacti 40 years ago. I have kept it in a medium-sized pot all these years - never been re-potted! The main stem is well over 1 metre tall, with a secondary stem about 1/2 metre, and then two smaller "babies" alongside. It has never flowered (possibly because it is not old enough ? or because of the restraint in the pot. Never-the-less it looks healthy and soldiers on. Dad must have thought it had to be old to flower as he said at the time that I would probably be DEAD when it did flower!
      Bless him!

How attractive must the Gerbera be to a bee ... do they say, "Hiya honey" before they sample her nectar?

As for simply shampooing the "The Beast", why not a trip to the car wash in the boot of the Merc

          Lovely shots Lyn

The beast looks almost alien or like a sea urchin from the angle of the shot

I think Mark has the right idea for washing its hair

Thanks Greg. I deliberately kept the shot dark, trying to show the "dark side" of the beast. And it will NOT be going in the car!

Fascinating comparison. I must admit I prefer looking at the Gebera, but I've never before heard of shampooing a cactus!

Hi John, thanks for taking a look and commenting.
People who collect cacti and exhibit them usually shampoo the hairy varieties to show off their white hair to full advantage. I admit my poor specimen is sadly neglected in this respect! There is "The Old Man" cactus with very long hair which I think is the pick of this prickly lot.
