  • For Attic...

Seeing Alby's splendid photos of the stag with his 75/1.8 has given me an excuse to recycle a couple of these. My first outing with that lens was to a "blues festival" (actually a Sunday afternoon with three very good acts) in a club in Southsea last August. I was very impressed with the lens and posted a couple of shots at the time.

I see that Alby is in Portsmouth, so this might be of interest.....

This Thursday March 7th., one of the musicians that I photographed then is playing a solo gig at the same venue, under the auspices of the Bullfrog Blues Club. He is Jon Amor:

A very fine songwriter and performer. http://jonamor.tumblr.com/ . Last time around he was with his band, this week he is playing solo so will probably play acoustic. Unfortunately I can't get along.

The opening act in August was local Southsea musician Andy Broad, also a fine singer/guitarist:

I think Andy organises the blues club nights so he might play a support set.

Should be a good evening if you like that sort of thing and can get along.

    Ciao ... John

Thanks for these, two cracking shots. Sure i have seen Andy Broad perform in Cambridge a few years ago. He is good.
The picture tells the story, great when you have a bad memory.DW.

Both beautiful compositions, John. The first for its strong opposing diagonals of player and guitar, and the second for the parallel diagonals of mic and guitar.

Thanks folks. Andy and Jon are both very fine musicians and good down-to-earth guys who are working very hard at their craft for little reward. I like to support the real thing when I get the chance, it seems so much more worthwhile than the vapid stuff dreamed up by those with TV shows to plug.

        Ciao ... John
