  • St David's Day, Cardiff

I had to take the Mayor to a St David's Day Service and Parade in Cardiff today. A golden opportunity to take photos. I didn't bother to photograph the parade, the spectators were much more interesting. This is my first attempt at shooting street, mostly shot from the hip with the E-M5 and 20mm and 45mm. These are pretty much jpegs from the camera transferred to my Android tablet (which I'm posting from). Probably quite dangerous as I might hate them when I see them on a larger screen.

Using an Ipad to film the parade:

    Getting the shot:

    Reviewing the shot:

    Can I help you, madam?

3 points for eating and driving?

Musical accompaniment - for some strange reason this busker was much photographed:

    Compensating for something?

    Merriment all round...

    For some anyway:

And it all ends with the National Anthem:

As always comments and criticism welcome.
    Roger

Agreed, the crowd is always more interesting, Roger.
One point with your opening pic - I always avoid shooting backs of heads, it gives the viewer the feeling that he's in the back stalls.
The rest are terrific and the narrative witty - "Can I help you, madam?" is a clever shot and "Compensating for something?" caps it.
All you need now is a street toger's license and you're in biz!

I agree that the spectators are often more interesting than the event Roger, and you have some nice insights in this set.
The lass standing in front of the dress opens up many title options, they are all interesting, but I think my favourite is the gentleman in the final shot.
Are the daffodils on the post in No1 part of decorations for the parade, or something else entirely?

Thanks Mark, and I take your point about backs of heads. That shot would probably have been better with the 45mm to emphasise the Ipad but the 20mm was what I had on the camera at that particular moment. Some way to go before I can claim to be a street tog, I think.

Thanks Lyn. Yes the daffodils are all part of the St David's thing - the national flower of Wales.

By the way, I made a big mistake while I was in Cardiff this morning. I noticed that a camera shop had a 12-35mm on display and I asked if I could try it on the E-M5. And now I want one! Grrr....

              Thanks.

              Another one from today...

              Do you like my handbag?

The officer on the left isn't carrying a handbag, of course. It just looks that way!

Not going to have time to do any more processing as we're off to Falmouth for the weekend. Going to meet daughter's new boyfriend. He's studying photography. He's a Nikon user but I'll try not to hold that against him.
