A Green Woodpecker (Picus viridis) male, had the guts to present himself, digging a quite good sized hole into my lawn, in search for food. He spent about 15min. and I took some 150 photos at high ISO (1600-2000).
I hear this species call all year round and do see them on occasion too. But to get a decent photo of them has been almost impossible so far. Now I should be happy, right?! But instead I almost wish I had not seen him at all, because the terrible noise in every shot I have buggs me ...

I love green woodpeckers, such a colourful bird, and these are wonderful pictures.

For web-presentation these shots are still all right, yes. But I hope it does not take many years again, until I can try to improve these ...

Was a bit worried when the first one opened thought it was injured or shot then moved on down to your great shots of a bird I have heard but never seen. Thanks for posting.

I have found that it pays to keep a good Anthill in the lawn, Greenies just love Ants.
