  • Reed Buntings

These two Reed Buntings were part of a flock of approximately 30 which were flying about at Carlton Marshes on Saturday. I was standing behind some brambles beside a drainage ditch when they landed on the other side of the bush. I could hear them and caught glimpses of them but as soon as they popped up and spotted me they flew off to the reeds on the other side of the ditch. These shots were taken through the brambles and were not as close as I would have liked. I can't remember seeing such a large flock of these birds before.

    E-30, 50-200 SWD, EC-14.

Lovely little birds, well done for the photos, the first is a cracker.
The picture tells the story, great when you have a bad memory.DW.

      Nice.

The photo of the female is excellent, perhaps even sharp enough to read the text on the ring? (consider sending in a report)

Thanks Tord. I have checked the original image but, unfortunately, the angle is wrong to read the ring number except for '04' at the bottom. I am ashamed to say that I hadn't even noticed the ring until you pointed it out.

Fantastic, going to have to save up for a 50-200. You get great results with it.
          Thanks
