  • Butterflies in the Glass House: Wisley Gardens

From a day out yesterday at Wisley (near Guildford), 'Butterflies in the Glass House' is on until the 24th February.
If you are interested in visiting (and I would recommended it for macro shooters) I would suggest a week day as yesterday it was a bit of a scrum in places

Sorry for the amount of images, perhaps a little too many but if you're visiting Wisley you have to include at least a couple of flower shots ....
All images with the 60mm macro and E-M5, some with fill flash, some without.

    Early Snowdrops.

Cactus about to flower (this was tiny btw).

    Onto the exotic Butterflies

    Achilles Morpho

    Tree Nymph

    Blue Morpho

    Common Mormon

    Owl

    Another Common Mormon

    I hope you enjoyed them

          Thanks Brian
Wisley is definitely worth a visit, great times tend to be Spring (Blossom is spectacular), Summer and Autumn of course and when they are holding special events like the exotic butterflies (on until 24th February).

Hello David, thanks for the your generous comments.
Yes this little lens packs a punch it's pretty amazing the detail it extracts.
In many of these shots I was unable to get very close as there was either a small crowd of eager 'togs' jostling for a good position (actually any position) or the butterfly was simply out of reach (away from the pathway).

We went this afternoon......saw the queue and the RHS guy said it would be at least an hour and a quarter to get in..........so we went walk around the grounds. The buds are there, soon be spring! I will be going back Tuesday morning!

Yesterday we had to queue for about 30 minutes, though we timed it well by having an early lunch in the restaurant, then joined the queue. Families with little'uns like their routine
Shame you didn't get in today though I'm sure Tuesday will be much better.

These are beautiful and I agree with David, this might be a lens I need to get. All the pics I took yesterday in the snow were with 50mm and I had forgotten how sharp that can be, so I am pleased that there might be a micro four thirds version of this lens.

                          Huw,

A lovely collection. Wisley is now added to our long list of places to do and see. I'll have to see if we can plan a break near there.

The 60mm is a lovely little lens and it certainly delivers.
