  • Steam on the Mainline

A4 60009 Union of South Africa on the East Coast mainline north of Doncaster on the way to York from Cambridge.
Not ideal having to photograph steam under the wires, but at least 40+ years after steam finished we are still able to see them running on the mainline.
Nice cold morning so the smoke and steam from the chimney filled the sky.

      Hi Derek,

Two good shots, I like the second close up best and I think they are well suited to black and white.

Amazing! Love the smoke esp. The second is my fave, too. Perhaps trim out the pole at right?

Great stuff. Love No2 with the network of tracks in the foreground. Look great in B&W.

Aha, that's what it was, I saw something from the lounge window and quickly called Heather & Lloyd to take a look. Great head of steam it was but I wasn't aware it was coming through so no pics Dave.

I decided to leave the pole in as it shows the modern railway infrastructure.
Here's one with the pole removed.

Just noticed the wires I need to remove them.
