  • On the beach again

Today the weather didn't look too promising for photos but I noticed from our bedroom window that there was some nice light to the south over the Bristol Channel. So I headed off to a local beach to try to capture it.

First a 30 second exposure using the ND110 filter:

    Second one without filter:

The third one was actually the first to be taken and at that point there wasn't much colour in the sky so conversion to mono suited this one best (I originally took it as a mono in the camera but this is a conversion of the RAW file).

    Comments/criticism welcome.

Thanks all. Guess I'll have to be careful not to over use the ND110 filter. It's my new favourite toy at the moment, though.

The two long exposure shots were taken with the camera mounted on a gorillapod on the sand, by the way.

I don't think you can over use it for this type of subject, but tastes and fashions do change. Just be sure to take a "normal" exposure at the same time so you have the best of both worlds.

Yes, true. You have to set the shot up without the filter on anyway because with it on you can't see very much. So may as well take a shot at that stage. Getting the exposure right with the filter on is tricky too. That's where Live Bulb on the E-M5 comes in handy.

                    It sure is!

By the way, just for fun here's a 30 second exposure taken with the Pop Art Filter on the E-M5. Jpeg straight from the camera (complete with not quite straight horizon).

                    Wacky, eh?

Love the tree pic, if only the tide was in lapping the base of it. I must get out and use mine, i'm a 5 minute walk from the beach.

True, it would be better with the tide in. I'll have to work out when the tide would be likely to reach the tree.

And what a beach Porthleven is!

Here's a slightly different shot of the tree with more emphasis on the tree and less on the sky:

Roger you've got some damn fine shots there. I think no's 1&3 are a wee bit better than no2 though. I must get one of these big stopper filters one day. I normally just take long exposures when the light is either going or gone.
