Glen Affric after a faltering early start.

I was up early today to hopefully see a 260 ton abnormal load that was due to come through the village, but I think I got the timings wrong as there was no sign of it!
Instead of going back to bed I thought I would head off to Glen Affric for sun-up, again I was disappointed as there was thick cloud on arrival.
However I made for the stream by the Loch Beinn a' Mheadhoin car park for some long exposure shots in near darkness:

1. Firstly showing the remains of the old bridge


2. Secondly some closer detail


I wandered out from the trees to see the cloud was breaking and before long some colour appeared:

Then a couple from the short walk back to the car:

5. And finally a suitable place for breakfast?

Very nice Iain, depending on the weather we hope to be going to Glen Affris next Saturday.

There should be some good colour in the trees next week or the week after, the birches have started to turn, but it seemed too early today to see them at their best.
Depending on other arrangements, I may head out that way again next weekend, wave if you see me

I suspect the fungus is a Fly Agaric where the rain has washed the veil remnants away. I am prepared to be shot down though.

Iain, What a terrific outing you enjoyed Thanks for sahring your shots - they do make me want to have a month or two in Scotland ... as soon as I am fully retired or maybe a week on holiday there in the north

The two of the water milky, just have the edge over the last for me

I've had picnics on that table in searing heat (yes in Scotland) when it's been snowing
(5 year old grandaughter insisted on being outside) our son proposed to our daughter-in-law near there and best of all seen a Red Squirel from that table.
I have spent many many happy hours in Glen Affric over the last thirty years and I have seen many changes. Not all of them for the best. yet it still holds a special place in my soul.

No, you are spot on, it is Amanita muscaria.

I have spent many many happy hours in Glen Affric over the last thirty years and I have seen many changes. Not all of them for the best. yet it still holds a special place in my soul.

On a trip to the same place last year with Stoates the bench was below the water level, an indication of the un-natural effect of the dam and power station, something they are not allowed to do with Loch Affric, thank goodness.

Did you use a long exposure filter on the 1st two ?

Did you use a long exposure filter on the 1st two ?

Thanks for the comment; I didn't use a filter as it was still quite dark, infact I had to increase the aperture to make 60 seconds give the correct exposure.
It was a bit dodgy clambering over slippy rocks with a head torch for light, but I was having fun.
I have a cheap variable ND filter from 7DayShop, but it sometimes gives a colour cast, messes up the contrast and if you darken it too much it looks patchy. I might invest in a decent fixed ND (6 or 8 stops) or just get up at silly o'clock and get the full benifit of the lens
