  • Getting used to the 50mm

Tried a few shots with the 50mm macro recently courtesy of Stephen. It's a lovely lens and I'm enjoying getting to grips with it. Definitely not quite got used to the narrow DoF yet, could have done with a smaller aperture for these. They were hand held in fading sunlight.

Thanks Greg, yes it does seem to have a style all of it's own somehow. I'm loving it so far. Need to find some better subjects to do it justice.

Re: Getting used to the 50mm

A lens I don't use nearly as much as I should . . . . you can get surprising depth of field if you are willing to really push it in terms of stopping down:

This was f22 @ 1/15 sec., iso 200, in natural light. The image is of an old castiron weight I found and cleaned up. The weight is just under 50mm in diameter, so, as you can see, the 50mm is capable of pretty good depth of field, albeit at much slower exposure values.
