  • An evening in the wheat fields

Having been very busy of late I have not taken many pictures or posted but I have just spent some time sorting some images from an evening wander around some wheat fields a few weeks ago before the harvest.

Nothing special but I felt the need to make contact with the forum again!!

Near or far? Didn't think this one through enough at the time but next time I will know better. In the mean time it's an almost but not quite image for me.

A study of one amongst many

Speaks for itself. The sunset never really happened that evening

    cheers

Hec, these are better than you give yourself credit for.

No 1 has great impact, lovely light and enormous DOF - one of the many advantages conveniently overlooked by critics of Four Thirds. It is an imaginative composition of a landscape which is difficult to make look interesting - and you've pulled it off.

No 2 could not have been taken on your E-3. Come on, own up - which full frame Nikon or Canon did you use? Everybody knows Four Thirds cannot do differential focussing! Another great shot IMO.

No 3 didn't need another standard, run-of-the-mill, boring sunset. The light breaking through the clouds here is subtle and exquisite. I love the placement of the trees and you've made great use of the curve in the plough lines. I know this isn't the "Improvement" board but just a comment on the processing. You've made a very nice job of balancing exposure of land and sky, but if you look close it has left a few halo artifacts, especially around the main tree. It's just a small point, but a 2, maybe 3 stop ND graduated filter would have made things much easier.

All three of tese pictures are excellent and it's inspired me to get out in the fields again!

Re: An evening in the wheat fields

I have to agree, all 3 have something going for them. Nice to see you back in action and the e3 getting used rather than laying in a cupboard getting dusty. Have to agree with John / Zuiko on the artifacts, but they're not always easy to see in camera. Still, useful advice for the future.
It's not what inspires us that is important, it's where the journey takes us.

Thanks for the comments guys. I think you are being a little kind

I confess to having totally missed the halo. Sloppy processing; no excuses and too lazy to use the ND grad which was in my bag when shooting

                  What can I say

The E3 is definitely not gathering dust Wally. Far too good a camera for that. Really love using it for the feeling of quality alone. It encourages you to take pictures. A excellent purchase from your good self. Hopefully fire a few off later today.

                  cheers
