  • Hungry Young Water Vole

This tiny Water Vole was contentedly nibbling reed stems, oblivious to the many enthralled observers at Minsmere on Sunday.

    E-30, 50-200 SWD, EC-14.

    Nice capture.

Must admit I'd never thought of Minsmere or its marshes as natural Water Vole Habitats. But it has been a very long time since I was las there.

Thanks Nick. This was one of two in a drainage dyke near the North hide. A couple of years ago there was a family of them living in the pond near the Reception. It was possible to stand on the bridge and watch them building platforms from reeds less than two metres away.

                Gorgeous Ron.
My grand-daughter's favourite book is "Mrs Vole the Vet". I shall show her your photo. I am not sure if we have voles in Oz. Our water rats could be similar but are longer looking creatures.
