She is beautiful Iggie ... the Iguana

Unfortunately she was up on one of the rafters overhead - I cloned out the struts and supports

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder Chevvy, but I am not so sure Iggie is beautiful?
      She seems to be smirking?

Hi Graham, Thanks for stopping by - YES Primeval that is it ! i see these as part of the Jurassic Age I must find out how old the species is

Hi Lyn, She is smirking because I wanted a full body shot and she was up above on a rafter, looking down at me GLOATING too Later on she walked off and along the top of a Bamboo bush and suddenly fell down through it, to the ground - but kept most of her body hidden in deep undergrowth NEXT Visit I shall get full body shots ...

Cathrine, she is not mine I do not think she would survive here with the Mad Mutt ESS and the massive Black GSD a friend has a 6ft one and buy chicks for it and breeds mice for it Niether of which I could do

They are truly beautiful creatures! In Norway, keeping reptiles is prohibited, due to the difficulty in feeding them well, and keeping them healthy. Also, I don't particularly like the idea of feeding them live rodents in captivity although that's what happens in nature... Dead is OK, since the mouse wouldn't know, but locked in a terrarium with no escape is rather unfair...

What kind of iguana is it? I noticed she has very pretty spikes under her chin, unlike the smooth throat of the Galapagos land iguana (below).

Yes it must be the same grin you both have for getting the great shots.

" They are truly beautiful creatures! In Norway, keeping reptiles is prohibited, due to the difficulty in feeding them well, and keeping them healthy."....glad to hear this as I climb on my soapbox....

I keep cage birds and during and after the non existent bird flu when all bird keepers were up there with jack the ripper I got a few bad comments but my birds all have plenty of aviary space indoors and out and can interact with (and against - the pecking order)) each other.
They are free to breed and have done...I know this is not IDEAL but they and their offspring would not have existed if they were not in captivity.

BUT if there is one species that I do not like to see in captivity it's these. Probably as the only ones I have seen just do not have the space to do ANYTHING. When I have seen them on people it makes me think they are just an ornament and a bit like the big nasty dog syndrome.
They had a very big one at the "cafe" at the Broadway Tower- it was in a barely big enough glass area in what looked like under the stairs...it made me bad to look at it.....

                Soapbox packed away...

Is there room on that soapbox for me too Keith? I have never liked zoos, although there are some better ones around these days. In Singapore we saw some raptors in a very small environment, and I fretted for days. These birds should soar. In Vanuatu we saw a poor little kingfisher tethered to the ground as a tourist attraction. There is still a lot of cruelty going on with smuggling Australian wildlife out of our country. We all have to be outspoken and vigilant and protect our animals and bird life.

They are beautiful beasties Chevvy and there is something about their eyes that is so intriguing, almost alien

Our wee bearded dragon will never get as big as any iguana but still needs to be cared for to make sure he stays healthy I was a bird keeper and breeder too, canaries and british finches, until last year. I was beginning to find that I did not have enough time to to do everything that we as a family wanted to do so the birds had to go unfortunately It is a great hobby and something I might well go back to when the kids have flown the coop

Hi Greg...I too had a "rest" for some years to allow time for family things and it was the children who started themselves - and me - keeping them again.

Sorry to Lyn from me and all other bird keepers for taking your wildlife....I think as I started you might have just banned all exports so my Redrumps and Cockatiels are way down the line. The Cockatiels always amaze me....on the few days we have some sun and heat they prefer to stay inside the shed area but in the winter they love to be outside.......so I think they are true Brits now.

The silly thing is Keith, if our export laws were not so strict, it would possibly cut out the illegal trade. I love our Cockatiels - do any of yours talk? They seem to love human company.

Well, I can honestly say that "Iggie" has plenty of space ! She roams throughout Butterfly World, (easily 120' x 80') whereever she pleases and is well cared for Probably why I so like to visit her

Lyn, I have a very LARGE soapbox on Animals - but generally, humans care better for animals, than for other humans I would NOT BE ALLOWED TO KEEP MY DOG in "Locked in Syndrome" forever indeed, I would be in jail because of neighbours & HUMANITY & the RSPCA !

Greg, I also have some photos of two bearded Dragons - who are kept in a Reptile House/Tank/ Glass Enclosure - for their own safety - but get out "on the grass" for some "Walkabout time" and photos . I feel mesmerized looking at these Dragons & Iguanas - there is something very hypnotic about their eyes and KNOWING GRIN

Cathrine, thanks for noting the difference on the Chin next visit I shall ask Wendy about Iggie and her species

Keith, I did not realise YOU breed for the wild bird populatin - I am thinking of doing this as the previous owners of here, had a huge Avairy for this purpose and I know Nick could re-instate it SO I may have to pm you re this project

Chevvy ....got to say - before someone (official) notices your "wild bird" comment........I just keep CAGE BIRDS.....as I know it is illegal to keep native birds in captivity as it is to release ANY birds into our countryside.
