Dandelion - given the art treatment

Created as part of a quest for 'original' wall pictures.

Treatment was with The GIMP and consisted of agressive use of despecle filter and unsharp marsk.

Why - well I liked the shapes but felt the dandelion in the original didn't quite have the necessary impact and drew attention, because of the small detail, away from the overall pattern

So here is the original, very slightly sharpened.



But really - should I have bothered?

It's an interesting technique and I'm pleased to have seen it. I'd even go so far as saying I quite like it, but its main attribute is novelty value rather than any lasting photographic merit. I prefer your ducks!

Well, I quite like it because of the interesting shapes that have resulted

I suspect it's a technique applicable to only a few, very select subjects!

So it's two to one in favour, but with reservations. I think I generally agree.

The intent was to bring out the pattern of shapes whilst still leaving enough of the Dandelion so that it was recognizable - but did not dominate with its detailed structure. Probably the exact opposite to what we normally try to do with this kind of photograph.

I don't think this technique would work on my ducks, but I do believe it would make an effective wall display.
