    Taking a simple small flower image and manipulating it in The GIMP.

    Why, well because pushing an image (and in this case its colour gradients) says something about the original subject and how we see it.

          Its a good almost painterly effect. Perhpas near to what some animals/insects see.

            Hadn't thought about the insect perspective.

            But yes it was from the way some painters just 'approximate' a background to help emphasise the central object.
