Thanks Pete, I've never had a lens with this reach before so I think I need to work on my technique and maybe invest in a monopod; even with really fast shutter speeds it was hard to keep things steady.
As to the locals, you realise that was probably their dinner you were photographing.
I did have one chap asking me what I was doing but he spoke no English and I speak no French but a bit of hand waving and showing him the pictures kept him happy!
