Hi ChevvyF1,
These are great. They move so quickly don't they and make it hard to get sharp shots.

Super little creatures but the sad fact is that the numbers in a brood go down every day.

Re: Golden Goose ? or Duckling
David, your so right and I do hope to see Goldie tomorrow !
I have never seen one like him/her
two friends I met in the woods said "If Mr Fox don't get him, the shooting season shall"
Perhaps I should capture him, intoto, I have a small Frog pond at home
although I too have Foxes visit my garden at night
Mark, I think its especially Pertty, REAL Pertty

Re: Golden Goose ? or Duckling
I hope you do see them again Chevvy but as David implies, it isn't easy being a duckling in the great big world!
I know nothing about breeding chooks and ducks - can you get different colours in one clutch, or would Goldie have been a ring in?

Re: Golden Goose ? or Duckling
Usually, they are all brown and a few have a little gold (I think the latter are the females). The people I have spoken to - who are into Wildlife and Ducks - say Goldie is RARE - a throwback! But unfortunately, Goldie does not "blend in" with the green/browns of the countryside, thus likely to make supper for either Mr Fox or a large Pike (fish) !Originally posted by Floribunda View PostI hope you do see them again Chevvy but as David implies, it isn't easy being a duckling in the great big world!

Chevvy, I think you should bring Goldie indoors and save him from the foxes. Remember the duck in "Friends" on telly?Originally posted by Chevvyf1 View PostDavid, your so right and I do hope to see Goldie tomorrow !

We have a neighbour who keeps chickens in his garden. He also has a couple of ducks that are happy to only have a washing up bowl as their pond! They are locked away in a shed at night.Bob

Bob thats a good idea, but what would I feed him ? and could he cope with the noise of 6 or 8 children screaming about playing in the garden Tues, Weds, & Thurs ?Originally posted by BobS View PostChevvy, I think you should bring Goldie indoors and save him from the foxes. Re: Golden Goose ? or Duckling
I think he (or she) would get on well with the dogs and as for the children, they'd love it. It would need a companion or two, though, so you'd better bring them all into your garden! Feed — duck pellets of course.Originally posted by Chevvyf1 View PostBob thats a good idea, but what would I feed him ? and could he cope with the noise of 6 or 8 children screaming about playing in the garden Tues, Weds, & Thurs ?
