  • 50-200mm SWD First pictures (Birds)

I have just bought a 50-200mm SWD and I thought I would share some of the results of my first session with it. I have to say I was very impressed, I think it will become a real favourite of mine. The shots were take with a tripod mounted E-3 using shutter priority.

I hope you like the images

    Chris

Hi Chris, you are so lucky to have a woodpecker to photograph

I have altered your post so that the images shown are full size instead of thumbnails.

Superb shots. I have the old 50-200mm lens and find it a very versatile lens which I use as much as my 14-54mm lens.

        Ian,

Thanks for your work on my images, I think I had better watch the forum video on uploading photos! If you are down my way, you are always welcome to come and photo the woodpeckers. They are obviously feeding their babies at the moment so hopefully it will not be too long before we get a visit from the red capped babes.

        Cheers

        Chris

            Dear Ray,

Thanks for your kind words, the older version of the 50-200mm was a real favourite of mine. I was worried about "upgrading", but in the end I just could not resist the SWD.

            Cheers

            Chris

I really like them! Great shots, Chris. You must be well pleased with them and the new lens. I'm still on the 140-150 mk1 kit lens and thinking of adding something with a bit more reach. Undecided yet between the ZD 70-300 and the ZD 50-200. Each has it's attractions.

                Hi Chris,

Great photos of woodpeckers. I have only managed to take two shots of them this year and unfortunately it was at the time I had my faulty 70-300 lens.

Having experimented now with various lenses I would say that the 50-200 SWD is probably one of the best choices in the Zuiko range for wild life photography. That is within the non-professional lens range of course.

The 70-300 is far too slow in focussing and performs badly in low light conditions. When I receive my E3 back from repair I shall re-check the performance of the 70-300 lens with it. My comments are at the moment limited to using it with the E500 as I have used the Bigma on the E3.
                Best Regards
