Stopped off at Hardwick Inn for a meal (brilliant food by the way) on the way back from taking my sone back to University and grabbed a few long shots of the Hall.
And finally a quick border tweak in the new Picassa 3.9.

No 1 is my favourite, the long evening shadows really lead the eye in to the distant Hall. Not sure the border effect in No 4 contributes much.

Thanks Peter the fence shadows is what caught my eye to stop for the shots. I'm not sure about the porthole border either, I was just playing with the new Picassa 3.9 to see what was new.
Very nice Phil. No. 1 is my favourite. I must visit again. Do you happen to know whether they allow photography inside? Some NT properties do nowadays but some still don't.
Thanks guys I thought this thread was done. Yes it was the view in No#1 that made me stop and get some shots. Mark I was up early but only very briefly on line as I needed to get into work early, hence, I didn't notice your greeting, so a belated g'day to you to! You are correct Hardwick doea have a lot of history attached to it particularly Bess of Hardwick who was quite a formidable woman from all accounts. It's a while since I've actually been round the place it wasn't open when I got these shots so we just went to the Hardwick Inn for a meal. It's definitely worth a revisit though. I seem to remember that as a NT member you also used to be allowed to visit the Old hall for free as well that one is run by English Heritage.
