  • Spoilt for Choice - weather perfect so where to go ...

... well not the canal towpath in search of kingfishers for sure - not on a Saturday when the sun shines as this is a magnet for walkers, push bikers, anglers, dog walkers and screaming children! Live and let live, of course - they all probably think we are a flaming nuisance taking up a stance as we do in the middle of the path oblivious to all around us, hehe!

So we set off slightly further afield and initially in search of red kites. Think they must have been down on the towpath, as we hardly saw any!

Fairly early on, although sunny from daybreak, it was still slightly hazy - hence this view of Mentmore Towers -

    1.

We also had in mind to see if our favourite butterfly meadow had any early signs of life. Well the meadow has been flattened but will, of course, soon re-grow so not much happening but we did see one peacock, which obligingly landed long enough to get a shot -

    2.

At a completely different location, we found another. It is apparently one of the earlier butterflies to emerge each year -

    3.

Where we had stopped briefly in the hope of seeing red kite, we found the field instead occupied by a herd of cows. I think Mum was saying 'Walk this way' and the calf was thinking 'I know my place' -

    4.

Finally, and going off subject, not from today's outing but another from our visit to Scotney Castle ten days ago! This is an emerging magnolia bud which, unfortunately, had a little frost damage -

    5.

All taken (not surprisingly) with E-30, 70-300mm lens.

    Regards,
    Ann1e

The second image is very pleasing. A great advert for the 70-300.

Nice shots there Ann1e, for me number 1 is my favourite. There's just something atmospheric about the house in that slight haze behind the row of foreground trees.

Well, I love your Saturday walk, Annie and can relate to that moment of decision as to where to go on such a perfect day, as we too had bright blue skies and warm sunshine today (Sunday), now drawing to a close.

The only thing, if you don't mind me saying so, is that your emerging magnolia is somewhat off key, and does not quite fit the set.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed tagging along and seeing the signs of your early spring.

Very many thanks, Dave, Peter and Phill for your comments.

I do feel very 'at home' now with the 70-300mm lens and find that I personally do better without the 1.4 converter which I have tried with it on a number of occasions.

You are so right, Mark. I forgot to add the magnolia shot to a previous post and I should have left it that way - rather spoils the flow of the story!
