  • "Peg"

We have on little Blue Tit, named "Peg" who only has one leg. Peg has been visiting us for two years - I wonder how s/he survives ?

Peg whizzes into the foliage around the bird feeders and is unable to "hang on" feeding a while - but grabs a seed or two, and returns to a branch.

Today, I finally managed a few photos of Peg !

Nick has just de iced the Bird Bath and Peg took a drink

Into the branches around the bird feeders

onto a feeder for seconds flapping wings all the time ...

sorry not high IQ shots, but more for interest, all through the window glass (as I have grotty flu, again!) I hope you enjoy

    Re: "Peg"

Thanks for the 'Peg' storyline - poor wee soul! We have a large number of one legged pigeons locally probably been in RTAs!

The snow started falling here about an hour and a half ago. We have a bird feeder in the garden and we had intended getting a bird bath today from our local garden centre but it was not open and will be closed until Monday because of a power failure. I think it must be peculiar to that particular business as everything else in the vicinity appeared to be up and running.

    Regards,
    Ann1e

Ann1e, Thank You for stopping by and glad you like Peg ! ... birds are desperate for water these cold and frozen days - we had 10 x more birds today for WATER ! ... so ready for early tomorrow, we have a few roasting trays to go out with water in for drinks and bathing birds and I am cooking a pack of bacon rashers (bacon for our lunch with Chicken inTagletelle) ... but then I cut up a Hovis brown loaf for the birds, in cubes, and heat the bacon fat and stir the bread around in it

= lots of happy feathered friends

        Re: "Peg"

        Dear little Peg!
Isn't it amazing how they cope. Even dogs and cats that have lost a limb seem to adapt pretty well.
I am always amazed at how the birds don't injure those thin little legs more often.
I am not feeding at the moment as it is summer, and dry seeds everywhere. In winter I supplement, but not on a regular basis so they don't get dependant on the supply.
It must be hard for your birds with all that cold and snow about!
Lucky they have friends like you!
