  • Prayers Answered?

Yesterday I came across this Praying Mantis caught in a cobweb by our rainwater tank.
With great care, heart in mouth, and a set of tweezers in my hand I extricated him and put him on top of our small rainwater tank to have his photograph taken.
You can still see a small bit of cobweb on his legs, but I quit whilst I thought I was ahead, and he wandered off, seemingly quite unaffected by his ordeal and with me feeling quite the Good Samaritan.

    Hello Lyn -

I like the way he is looking towards you as if acknowledging the part you played in his release! Also it appears you have captured him playing an invisible piano with some finesse!

    Regards,

        Hi Ann1e and Ed,
        Thanks for looking.
Yes - he does look as though he is playing that piano. LOL.
They are such gentle insects, it is always a joy to find them in the garden.

          Gentle?

Mantids are ferocious carnivores. The females will also eat the male's head off while copulating!

            Too true Jim.
I meant "gentle" in the sense of their reaction to we humans. I have been known to pick one up and this is not a practice I would advise with most of the crawlies I encounter in the garden.
