  • Scorn not the Ivy.

    Once all the other (red) berries are gone the birds turn to Ivy. Such a valuable plant with nectar-rich flowers in late summer/early autumn and succulent black berries in late winter. Caught this increasingly scarce Song Thrush, one of a pair, across the lane and taken from the kitchen window:



    The moral is to leave as much Ivy in place as you can, it's an important habitat for bugs and spiders too.
