  • Late afternoon roosting flocks

    As a first "in anger" tryout of my new 50-200mm plus ec14 I went to an area known for Short eared Owl visits with the thought that this lens would be easier to snap a flying bird. The Owls didn't turn up until after sunset but while waiting I tried to get a few images of the masses of Finches/Buntings flocking to roost in the Hawthorne scrub.

    And for something at the other end of the zoom range a mass of spiderling threads at just before sunset over the sheep pastures:



    Considering the bird shots were at 10/11ish metres I am very pleased with the result. Now I need to try out with an EC20.

    Brilliant shots, the first two really appeal to me, as you;d guess, and the yellowhammer steals it by a nose. Very good set indeed.
