  • Yellow or blue?

Having, fooled around in the rape, I moved to the bluebells for a different background. I am pleased with both but show the rape shot again to see them side by side and for your feedback. I still think the bright yellow is my choice. But the more subtle blue would make the nicer greetings card!

The 135-400 does deliver a nice blurred background and well defined focal plane. I haven't yet found bluebells on the edge of a rape field. But I think that might be the shot I'm really looking for...more walking needed

    best wishes

Hi both very good shots. I prefer the the Blue as it more subtle and it helps that the flowers are brighter and open. The light area in the left hand upper of the Rape shot becomes distracting compared to the uniformed colours on the Blue shot. Still two very nice shots.

I think the blue works much better here.

Blue (and green to a lesser extent) is good as a background colour because it tends to recede and give prominence to the subject.

Reds and yellows tend to grab the attention much too much and are not always a good choice for a background.

As always these "rules" are there to be broken!

PS Ever wondered why the default colour of a Windows desktop is blue? There's a good reason for it!

Yes - it matches the 'blue screen' which was the default state for a windows server.

Peter - a couple of lovely shots using the 135-400s to create nice soft backgrounds.

Found a dandelion field next to the bluebells. Which is almost what I wanted.

It is a good year for dandelions. I'm sure someone is delighted, but the farmers will no doubt sort that out in the appropriate fashion with something that can be spayed all over!

They're all beautiful. If anything I think I prefer the yellow background.

I'm going with yellow. Its just a better shot, better composed and lovely contrast - plus super smooth.

Not that any are bad, but sometimes the original is the best and in this group I think that is tha case
