  • Glen Affric Take 2

After a damp and disappointing visit to Glen Affric 2 weekends ago Steve (Stoates) suggested we try again today and I was very glad we did!
I'm not sure if I've done the conditions justice and I've still got plenty of images to go through, but thought I would post a few shots for comment.

This one might work better monochrome (it nearly is!)

There was some nice light once the mist lifted

We spent a couple of hours 'off the beaten tracks' trying to find a way to the south shore of Loch Affric only to be greeted by Deer fences at every turn, so we gave up, exhausted and headed for higher ground!

By this time we were ready for lunch, which happened to be 3 miles away in the car!!

Anyway, it was a great day and thanks again to Steve for getting in touch (and driving)

Beautiful images of a very beautiful place - looks like you were very lucky with the weather this time around..... like you say, No 1 (and 3) would be great B&W images with a little bit of work....

        Re: Glen Affric Take 2

As Iain said this was a MUCH better day. The weather was perfect when we arrived just before sunrise; a little mist on the loch , not a whisper of a breeze and a weak sun trying desperately to break through some higher level fog.

Haven't even started to look at my images from later in the day but these few just sum up what a photographers paradise Glen Affric was this morning. Certainly well worth the 5am start.

        Cairngorms next anyone?

          Hah!
If only I'd known. Didn't see my emails until half an hour ago.
I spent Saturday afternoon on Hopeman beach and Sunday pm at Spynie.
          Was a cracker weatherwise.
          I might post a couple.
You got some gems too. Very nice but nae snow.

Iain, these are all nice, very nice, but the first three - oh my word! No 1 probably would look good in B&W but I love it as it is, I think the very muted colours really help to make the shot something special. I just love the geometrical simplicity of No 2, it's exceptionally well seen and executed. No 3 is full of mood, atmosphere and excitement, what a pearl of a day!

Steve, exceptional work from you, too. I particularly like No 6 but No 4 really does it for me, it's sublime and would look fantastic as a 16x12 hung on the wall.

              I'm jealous of you both.

Can't add much more to what's already been said, absolutely stunning work guys you realy did the place and conditions justice.

Great photos in fabulous conditions for us photographers - what a good autumn we're having at the moment! Hopefully, I'll stop taking photos and get some posted in the near future, and I just hope that some come close to the standards of these!

                    Re: Glen Affric Take 2

I have had a go at a couple of B&W conversions - any thoughts?

The second one seems to be too dark/contrasty(?) on the left - I might try other settings in Lightroom.

Thanks to all for the kind comments.

Two further (and final!) images taken later in the day following our 'epic' trek and failed attempt to reach the shores of Loch Affric.(That damned fence!!)

                          a cracking set of shots.
Unlike other comments, I am not sure that there is enough contrast in some pixs for mono treatment.
