Although the b/g is green the eye is drawn to all the dead brown stems, especially when looking for a dragon. It took some finding last week and will probably be the last one this year in "my" fields.I did see a larger one yesterday about 10 miles from here so a few are hanging on a bit longer.

Ah that's in the "soft" south......it always amazes me how they cope with the changing weather.Mind you if they got through this non-summer they might see Christmas.

Thanks David and Danny.....yes with the 105,ideal for nabbing these. Lightweight and versatile as I can spot one and take many shots as I move in to try for a close up.
So it's a Juvenile Male ...thanks.What happens to him now ? Does he hibernate through the winter or die out.I have only seen these in the fields each side of a small stream so do they feed in the fields and deposit the eggs in the stream or in the fields.

David, are you sure with this being a juv. male?
With regards to the caudal appendages and color, I would have made a well matured female (S. striolatum) out of this one. Got a similar one on film yesterday too.
Thanks Falk....I did not think they hibernated but when David said it might be a young one I did not want it to die.
Ever since the spring I have managed to have the good fortune to see many species of Damsel and Dragons but have yet to see one catch any food....no wonder they die !!
