  • My first Adder... in the wild too!

    Hi All

Down in Cornwall this weekend and when out on a walk Heather shouted over to me that she had spotted two adders fighting. Managed to grab some shots which I will process later (en route to Warsaw). Here's one I processed in the airport lounge.

Nice crisp shot John, they are quite a sight. The only one I have ever seen in the wild was a baby - about 6 inches long and as wide as a pencil - trying to fit a fully grown mouse into its mouth! Sadly I was without camera.
I look forward to seeing some more shots once you have a spare few minutes
    All the best,
    Phil

            Nice shots John.
When i was in North Wales recently I spotted an Adder, a dead one. Not sure if I had killed it by treading on it but at first sight it was a bit scary.

I think your adders are mating John..............very nice capture.............I have kept corn snakes and currently have a boa and they like to dance when they mate

No - they are both male adders - though it is very likely a female is close by, they are 'fighting' over mating rights, the winner being the adder that forces its opponents head to the ground. A female adder is darker coloured (more red/brown).

Lovely capture - and a privilige to see it. Adders are quite shy and usually hide from people, but it is worth treating them with caution and watching where you put your feet.

Great shot! Amazing to see that in an animal normally so shy. Glad they wern't on the rugby pitch!

Sorry the location is "sensitive" as the adders are unfortunately misunderstood and people react badly & there are houses nearby.

It's around our part of the world though - I'll PM you about a possible morning out when it's sunny.
