  • Berry delight. (lots of images)

Despite (and because of) the very windy conditions, I thought I ought to get out and get a few shots of our local hedgerow berries. It has been such a good year for berries although some have already gone and some are now looking past their best, but there are still a lot of delights if you look closely enough. Sorry about the large number of images, but I felt it needed all these to do justice to the bounty for wildlife in our hedgerows.

One we all know well, Blackberry:

    Rowan:

    Ivy, not yet ripe:

    Hawthorn:

    Privet:

    Yew:

    Wayfarer:

    Holly:

Mulberry, the last one on the bush. Picked some of these a month ago and made some very rich jam:

Sloe, good for gin and wine. Badgers have been gorging themselves on them down the lane:

    Crab Apple:

    Beechmast:

    Laurel:

Despite all this fruitfulness the same Laurel bush was also still in flower:

All taken with E30 + 70-300mm and built-in flash (very dull day!)

Interesting series, I have never seen privet berries before most likely due to the fact that I keep it trimmed and remove all flowers etc. Thanks for showing.

A nice selection David. I took a few pictures of the berries on the Yew in the garden last week as it looks like it's going to be a bumper year. I'm looking forward to capturing the thrushes and redwings that gorge themselves on them with the 70-300 as last year I only had the stock 40-150. I *may* (quality dependant ) even post an image or two of the berries myself once I've got round to uploading and checking them.
