  • Crossing the Great Divide

Continuing our journey from Tumbarumba to the coast we must cross the Great Dividing Range via the Snowy Mountains.
    1.
We have many photo stops and roadside snacks along the way.
    2.
With the PEN balanced on the roof of the car and the 12 sec. timer counting down, here's the self portrait that portrays the unfocused nature of the subject.
    3.
With such perfect weather it was hard to imagine that the road ahead for most of winter is snowbound and not driveable in a 2WD Pintara!
    4.
We reach the alpine town of Cooma (Pop. 8,000) where we check in to our motel
    5.
During winter Cooma is a popular base for skiers and there are some nice accommodations.
    6.
Early morning and we're on the road heading for the coast at Bega and Bateman's Bay where we will spend our third stayover of the getaway.
    7.

    Mark,

Just a small request - could you stop posting this type of picture - you know the ones of Australia because if my other half sees these I'll have no peace until we come back over there!!

Lovely set of shots - really catches the essence of the towns and roads both in that area and across Oz. The shot down the main street of Cooma is the view seen in so many of the smaller towns in Oz.

Will only open up your threads from now on when my better half is otherwise occupied!

    Regards
    Jeremy

Mark, another fascinating set, each one of these you post has me scanning Google maps to see where you are and where you are going
Keep them coming... by the way 3 and 4 are my favourites of the bunch.

I am enjoying the journey Mark.
I love our iconic Aussie pubs, so the corner Hotel is my favorite of the set.
I have often wondered just how many "Royal Hotels" there are in our country? . I reckon quite a few?

Well Jeremy, waiting for your better half to be otherwise occupied when you open my threads does sound extreme - wouldn't it be simpler and more diplomatic to just succumb and book yourselves a couple of seats on a BA / QAN TAS flight! Anyways, it's good to know that you are enjoying the armchair tour!

Thanks Huw, I am glad you are able to share our own enjoyment of our getaway, we got home late Wednesday (Early morning, your time). If you are interested in Pelicans then you might take a look at Reach for the Sky in LFP.

Glad you are enjoying the journey Lyn, I am sure it must bring back happy memories of your own more adventurous crossing of the snowy Mountains in your 4WD.
I am sorely miffed and disappointed that #2 is not your favourite - so consider yourself demoted to #3, and consider yourself lucky that I am not throwing pebbles on the ground!
