  • Woo hoo! Two years running!

Some of you may remember this from last year...

    http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthread.php?t=11017

I was over the moon after winning first prize and the photography trophy in the local village show.

I couldn't be there this year, as I was busy doing some narrowboat handovers, but I sent my entries over to my friend to enter for me and I've just had a text message to tell me that I've done it again with this one that I took on a narrowboat holiday back at Easter...

Apart from the teensiest bit of straightening and cropping, it's exactly as it came out of the camera - the 40-150 kit lens once again doing a superb job.

    I love my Oly!

PS. I'm chuffed to bits...can you tell?

    Well done Janet (again)

Lovely photo, nicely composed and bright vibrant colours. Love the reflections.

Re: Woo hoo! Two years running!

It was a perfect day Steve, with that lovely light you get just before an impending thunderstorm that my Oly captured beautifully.

It's basically just a snapshot, as I was in the middle of the canal steering the boat towards the lock at the time...I only managed to rattle two shots off before I started to veer off course! I could SEE the composition that I wanted, but there was no way of getting it!

On the whole though, I'm very pleased with it and the way that my e520 performs with the kit lens.

Congratulations Janet. Your photo from last year really sticks in my memory because it is so good. This years is such a contrast with its vibrant colours. Well done.

            Well done Janet.

Just proves you have a really good eye.

Re: Woo hoo! Two years running!

Not so much a good eye Andy as being fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time and having so many bloody good photographic opportunities...

I actually entered two photos...the other one wasn't placed and I think it was by far the better one...

Although I've had my moment of glory, and get to spend the next year polishing the trophy, it's all very subjective, and what I think is a good photo may very well pass by the judges...

Last years winning entry I was immensely proud of, because I worked at it for months...studying my camera, learning manual control/lighting etc, and eventually I got a result that I was proud of.

This year, although I'm absolutely delighted to have been voted the best, I feel like a bit of a fraud!

No fraud, Janet, it's a lovely composition with great colours and a worthy winner. It doesn't matter how you got it, the main thing is you did get it!

                Congratulations!

                  Well done!

You never can tell how people view your images. I sometime think an image has impact and it passes some people by, others I view as a snap and some people rave about it. It can be a mystery to me

I love photographing boats. The river and canals are my favourite places.

Well done Janet it's a lovely simple colourfull shot, much better than a snap, although I can see why you'd lable it so. It would make a good postcard. A very different shot to your last winner which I must say I prefer as an image, it was just stunning, made even more worthy when you explained all the preparation you'd gone through to get it. I don't think I'd joined this forum when you posted before so I'm glad you posted the link. The owl is a bit more of an aquired taste, I like it cos I like sharp images, but maybe if you'd not got quite so close then the surrounding face feathers would have made the face have more impact as an owl's face and it may have had wider appeal to the judges. As it is the impact comes from the clarity and sharpness.

A really nice compo. For me, the slight ripple effect makes it stand out as many people will try to get a dead calm type reflection. Well done!
