Some seasonal "Incomers"

A few arrivals at the local reserve usually seen at this time of the year.

Snipe:





Black-tailed Godwit, a very elegant wader that normally breeds in Iceland and Faroes (although a few pairs breed in The Fens). This is a male still in breeding plumage:

OOh David THATS THE LENS I have been saving up for FINE shots and another vote for the 2nd Snipe shot, its utterly AWESOME. However they are all very excellent Thanks for sharing

Rather tasty set of images, and I will refrain from feeling any envy re the lens!! I must try hiring it sometime for aviation shots, but weather and availability of aircraft seems to limit the opportunities too.
More importantly too, I presume that these are taken using a fairly heavyweight tripod and gimbal? and I presume trying to get a reasonable depth of field is often quite difficult? What sort of ISO, shutter speed and aperture were you using for these lighting conditions, as it only seems to be the last shot that has hints of sun?

No, these were all taken hand-held resting on a hide window ledge at f7.1, Auto ISO (200-320) and around 1/250th. IS on. I always use small spot and try to focus on the eyes or head as if these are oof then the shot is useless, but if the legs etc. are oof then it doesn't matter so much. A good example of the value of IS I think.

Agreed - all excellent. My personal favourite is the cormorant for the simple energy and joy which comes out of it.

They are all exceptional, but my Fav is the 2nd Snipe, you can actually see a reflection in the eye of the bird, just goes to show how good the oly systems are, I would love a 70-300mm lens, can't afford it at the mo, but I am using my Legacy 200mm Oly lens, just need some time to get out and use it more.

I am afraid that these were not taken with the 70-300mm but the 300mm prime.
