  • Ducks with G3 and Pana 100-300

The 100-300 lens arrived today so I went down to the Loch and shot some ducks, very poor light so the lens was wide open and using ISO 800 for the first shot but ISO 3200 for the other 2, shot RAW and developed in LR3.
I'm happy with quality especially with the high ISO and the lens wide open. mFT is the real deal it seems.

    Comments welcome.

This lens doesn't look at all bad. Very impressed!

(just got a G3 as a spare body to my GH2 but not been out with it yet due to working)

Yip it seems fine, a bit plasticy, not the same solid construction as the Oly m9-18 and m14-150 but seems ok.
Be interesting to see how the G3 compares to the GH2, I think if I get a second camera I'll get a GF3 or EPL3 as they would be nice and pocket-able with the 20mm lens.

I was considering both of those but I can't cope wholly without a viewfinder. The LCD screen is fine in some circumstances, but for straight photos it's a no-no.

Initial impressions of the G3, without taking any actual photos, are that I am not going to miss the external controls as much as I thought. It seems quite a bit smaller, though hardly any lighter (difficult) than the GH2. Perfect for pancake lenses - may even be large-pocketable.

At the moment I can't get at my main photo-processing computer as son the younger has taken up temporary residence in my computer room and called it the spare bedroom. But he flies home tomorrow night so it will be back to normal and I can get at everything.

PS only just noticed the use of iso 3200 on some of your shots. Wow!

I'm really pleased with the High ISO of the G3, the 16Mp sensor really is good, for some reason you can only select a max auto 3200 ISO if you want 6400 you have select it, dunno why they did that, I'm hoping a firmware upgrade will change that, I've taken a few shots at 6400 and they are very useable, I never liked using the E5 at 6400 though.
I'm well smitten with mFT very glad I switched.

Another G3 buyer here have only started to play with it, quality seems great. Will take a while for me to get used to the menus and touch screen (age thing). Will be watching to see which are the best lenses to get, will be holding on to the E30 and lenses meanwhile.

I'm guessing your tongue in cheek, although I sold all my FT kit and moved to mFT (micro four thirds)
The G3 is a Panasonic (Lumix) mFT camera and sells for around 420 GBP body only, all mFT lenses (currently Panasonic (Lumix) and Oly make mFT kit) will fit as will any other four thirds lens with an adaptor (although the focus speed may be slow depending on what FT lens is used).
I would think long and hard before just moving over to mFT, the move suits me but may not be everybodies cup o tea.
