  • In the garden

    Hi All,

Got out in the garden today and caught these two.

The humble sprout with some water caught.

    Can anyone identify this beast?

    Thanks for looking,
    Yorkie

    Re: In the garden

    Hi Adrian,
Lovely shots - especially like No 3 - great reflections and colours in the water.
Sorry no idea on the caterpillar but looks really colourful - I'll be interested to find out what it is - and hope to find one to take some shots of.
    Nice work.

    Regards
    Jeremy

OMG, that last thing looks like a crossbreed between a shaving brush and something I saw at Crufts in March.

The carterpillar will be Orgyia antiqua - it's quite dark colored though. I don't know it's English name, but a web-search will get you there. I started a thread on one of these a few weeks ago, look here for comparison.

        I like the droplet.

          Many thanks for the comments.

Falk, thanks for the identification: I am surprised just how different the two examples are. Mine defiantly look like badger hair shaving brushes while yours has more in the way of yellow plumes.

The English is Vapourer moth and I wonder if the image is underexposed due to the white background.
