  • Almost out for a Duck! - PL1 + 50-200

Another bleak windy day, took the PEN for a walk by the river hoping to shoot a few birds
but nothing until almost back to the car when I spotted them barely within range at 200mm in very poor light (images heavily cropped).

It's so nice seeing totally different birds!

      Thanks Cathrine.

I think this is a Wood Duck but woodn't be sure of that - Enter Lyn and Ross for a positive ID!
I have added some density to the original which on my monitor appears fine but monitors do vary, I know.
The subject was about 50 yds from camera. Here is the whole frame, out-of-camera, unedited image to which contrast was added.

Yep Mark - Australian Wood (Maned) Duck. Male has the darker head.
These are prolific this year with all the water lying around.
I even had to slow the car in the main street last week as two sauntered across the road in front of me.

Thanks for the ID, Lyn. This species is one of very few Duck names I remember ... the others being Muscovi, Peking and Donald.
