  • Bird shots from today

Went to Stonehaven today to Fowlsheugh Bird Sanctuary.

    Here's a selection of shots with a 90-250 lens and E5.

    Comments welcome.

Stunning shots, I particularly like no. 8 (the lone razorbill (I think?) on the thrift)

The E-5 and 90-250 seem to be a match made in heaven!

      Cheers,

        Lovely shots.

I always find Razorbills and Guillemots challenging to capture well because of the areas of dark plumage and the difficulty of getting the detail to come through, but these are great - congrats.

              Thanks for all the comments.
That was my last outing with the 90-250 as it's been sold but it's a great lens capable of stunning results.
These shots were done using a monopod, the E5 set to aperture priority, S-AF, single shot mode and IS turned off (since it isn't working properly on my camera) with me selecting the focus points each time. I was using ISO's from 200, 400 or 800 manually selecting the value to keep the shutter speed up around 1/1000 or more and typically using apertures around f4.0 - 5.6.

                I have been there!
I am of the opinion the birds are trained to pose for visitors.

The guy in the last photo really looks like he knows what he's doing, is he a pro?

I think he must be. He gets amazing results and only shoots in low res jpg!

So much for the argument for shooting RAW.
