  • A Pair Of Goldfinches

These are now regular visitors, also a bit of advice from the experts please. This was taken on my E3 + 50-200mm. at 200mm. handheld. I have been using this setup plus my EC20 up till now but was wondering if it is better to fill the frame with my EC20 thus cutting out the crop factor, providing there is enough light, or will a cropped shot with the lens alone always yeild better results. Advice and comments welcome, Regards, Ian W.

It's horses for courses really. An EC20 will give you less light to auto focus and a slower shutter speed, both of which are a disadvantage with birds or anything else that has rapid movements. It can also degrade the IQ, especially contrast, although as I haven't used it with this lens I accept that this may not be drastic. However, despite these constraints, if you get a well focussed sharp image then you have more pixels to play with for sharpening/cropping etc.
