  • Why did I persevere

    Hi

Lousy day, bad lighting and wet

Packed up my 70-300 lens and fitted the old 40-150 +EC14 to my E3

Why on earth did I not do this before? I could have saved myself so much heartache. If it was not for the fact I am exchanging the 70-300 it would have gone straight into the bin after this shoot.

    Nice shots.

I am thinking about getting rid of my 70-300mm. I have never been that impressed with it. With a lot of light, it occasionally can allow the capture of a good image, but I still find the 40-150mm exceptionally good value.

        Thanks.

I am hoping that the one I have is a rogue. Judging from what I have seen here that is very likely. To be honest, it was only when I had the EC14 that I was forced to blame the kit and not myself. I agree with you, the old kit lens are exceptional value for money.

Thanks. the weather was abysmal today, no where near as much rain as a monsoon but certainly was dark. I have brightened the images a touch but I have overdone it in the past and thats why I am cautious.

Oly UK have agreed to give me a new 70-300 lens to replace the one in the 'bin'.

            Hai Pete,
Oh!...I didn't know you have a bad copy of the 70-300. Believe me it's a superb lens and it's made by Tatsuno. Before this kid came i have tried the 40-150 and Tcon17 combi, the results are o.k. but not as sharp. I had proir info before the 70-300 was announced. And Believe me it never fails to Impress and it's a GODSEND, For Birders like me.....So Keep Experimenting and you will find your sweet spot sooner than later!......Thanks....James.

I quite agree with jmoh Peter, it might be that I have found a good one and have a great rapport with it!! but my 70-300mm is without a doubt, my most frequently used lens.

I sincerely hope you get a good one as a replacement, I am sure you will and will then see the difference.

Thanks John, I can hardly wait. When I think of the lost shots/opportunities it makes .

Hope you dont mind but I had a go at pp on your swan.
Not that much information to use on small res web photos though.

Sorry to hear about your bad lens hope the new one is ok.

                        Hi Peter,

that #2 shot is really good, sorry to hear about the 70-300, I tried one and thought it was very sharp even wide open. Hope you get a better one although perhaps I didn't really spend enough time with the 70-300.

                        Richard
In theory there's no difference between theory and practice but in practice there is.

Thanks Richard. Not much wrong with the old cheap kit lens is there?

I am keeping my fingers (and everything else) crossed.

This is an image that I could not resist taking but I wish I had a longer reach. The lake in question is within a fenced area belonging to Portsmouth Water. I could not get any closer and dearly would have loved to have a longer focal length.......soon, I hope.

The Canada Geese are getting close to wanting to lay and rivalry has come to the fore. Usually quite a good community bird except of course for this time of the year.

I watched these two posture then one retreated to be chased by the pair to the other side of the lake.
