I don't usually like birds on feeders but felt I had got a decent exposure so thought I would show it.

      Re: Woodpecker

I still photograph birds on feeders, especially woodpeckers. They are still wild creatures and marvellous for it, just a little bribery involved - like persuading grandchildren to pose for a shot!

        Re: Woodpecker

Personally I don't mind seeing birds on feeders like this...it's the yukky plastic ones that really spoil the shots.

One of my friends has a great trick for natural looking feeders. He's drilled out holes in several branches and fills them with a mixture of fat and seeds.

Works very well, even if it is cheating a bit!

Feeders have their place in shots imo. This one is a good example of where a feeder does not detract one bit from the shot - nice one.

How I wish we had these birds in Oz Keith! I love your shot.

I don't think there is anything wrong with feeders either. A nice way to attract birds into the garden and if a photograph follows - goodoh!

I stopped taking birds on feeders after a couple of publishers chose shots of birds on feeders rather than the same bird on a natural perch.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

                    Nice image Keith

I had one in the garden for the very first time a few days ago, but by the time I had grabbed the camera he had gone.
                    Regards Paul.
