Very nice indeed Keith, if you do not mind me saying I think you have pulled in the brightness of the white feathers a little to much.
            Regards Paul.

              Thanks everyone...

Yes the 510 and sigma 135-400.

There was no time to go to portrait for the reflection as I was using the monopod.

PAUL...Don't mind you saying anything, but was does "you have pulled in the brightness of the white feathers a little to much." mean ?

Is it something I have done on the camera or computer.

                Re: Mandarin Drake

I'd say in the computer, it's just that it is a bright and contrasty scene and those white breast and head feathers just seem too muted and grey in tone that is out of keeping with the general brightness of the scene. Of course I could be wrong.
                Regards Paul.

                  Re: Mandarin Drake

Thanks for getting back Paul......just had a look at the raw and the breast is a touch dark and I did try and "look after the detail" in levels etc.
I remember every time I tried to add contrast or brighten then it took away any detail in the breast.
Wish I had got some better material to work on in the first place so will have to try harder in the future.

Keith I am sure the material is fine, this is using just the low rez web jpeg as a demo but I'm sure you could a lot better with the original file.

Try this using Elements, process the raw so there is feather detail then using a levels and brightness adjustment layers to get the image how you want ( letting the white feathers blow) then activate the layer mask (click on it) and using the paintbrush set to low opacity (about 30%) paint with black on the layer masks to get the white feathers back under control.

                      Regards Paul.

                        Hi Paul..

Thanks for taking the time to sort me out.
It really has made a difference but I am not able to do any of this.
I don't have Elements and layers are far too complicated.

                        Thanks again
