  • Crested Pidgeon

Crested Pidgeons are not an uncommon sight along the Ovens River.

Bing a somewhat "laid back" bird they are not as shy as most other species.

This fellow didn't mind posing a while for the E-3.

Because these birds are so common in Oz I reckon they don't get the credit they deserve. They are very pretty - quite senseless, without a brain in their head it would seem, but endearing.
Often called "Top-knot" pigeons or as I have heard - "Top-notch" pigeons!

    Pretty photos Mark.

They've actually got a few of these in Edinburgh Zoo, next to the Koalas. It's in a heated house where they're free to fly around - a favourite spot for me to go and warm cold hands in winter!

I'm trying to remember another species of pretty birds like that ...

I remember them as top-knot pigeons, from when I lived in Canberra. When they fly they sound as if their wings need oiling!

Well remembered Eva. That's just how they do sound!
