Peter, you did some nice shots! I like the hovering Kestrel female alot. Excellent you even got her with her prey - an Apodemus sp. I suppose?!
I admire your Longtailed Tit (#1), as I have tried for a year and a half to produce something like that, but they are always high up in the trees OR hopping so fast through the brush, that I not have a single pic with which I am happy.
Only noticed on the second or third look, that you caught the Goldfinch "in the act"! Well done

Thank you for your very kind comments. The Tits were all over the place and I had very little time to focus. They moved down the hedgerows and trees alongside the path I was on. I followed them for about 10 minutes trying to get a clear shot but having to abort so many times that it made me more determined than ever..
I wrapped up well and took a walk around the Oysterbed site.
It looks as if this'd be a fantastic walk, if you wouldn't mind the company. I'm sure some of us from 'down here' would be delighted to join you one day - how about a weekday, perhaps, or a weekend?

Hi Ellie
Thanks for your reply.
I would be happy to meet with any forum members and take them round our local patch.
A key time would be from the end of May, when the Tern have returned from Africa and are nesting on the islands. I shall again be volunteering as a warden during the breeding season. The Perigrine falcons should also be nesting on the cliff tops at the old Chalk quarry on Portsdown.
If anyone wishes to come earlier then next month would also be a key time. We shall still have the winter visitors and also the first arrivals of the migrants.

Ellie, I shall post a thread later to pick up anyone interested in walking around here. I am free most days (in the week and weekend).
I have also posted a copy of this thread on the Hayling Island Community Forum where it has been very well received. I shall keep the walks up on a weekly basis to keep them informed so there should be plenty of opportunities for those on here to join me.
An amazing set of bird shots Peter. That Bigma sure is a great lens for birding in good light.
Thank you Mark.
I too was of that opinion but this largely was due to the camera ISO performance. The E3 limited me to ISO 800 as a ceiling (ISO 400 being my preferred value). The E5 allows me to use ISO 1600 with reasonable confidence. This lets me shoot in conditions I would never attempted to before. Although luminance noise can be easily be removed the IQ will be degraded. I am getting much less noise from the E5 so thats a good starting point.
