  • Hydrangea

This is an attempt to take my home studio outside.
The flowers are all still on the plant.
I'm not sure I've got the idea right so I welcome comments.

    Rather remarkable ... do tell
Look, I'm an old man. I shouldn't be expected to put up with this.

      Re: Hydrangea

Every time I try for a short field of focus either some of the object is not sharp or the background is not soft enough and also usually has something of a distracting line.
The black cloth does away with that.
The flowers are all on the one plant and I was taken with the variation in colour.
Pushing my Photoshop skills to the limit I stuck them together but I feel that the end result is somehow clumsy. I had been thinking of them as a triptych and might have another go with a white border separating them. I think the flowers are also probably overdone as they overglow but that may just be the contrast with the black. I've got a couple of thoughts half formed in my head and I was wondering if others comments might help crystalise.
The lighting on the day was bright but overcast. Does the E-3 pick up ultraviolet?
As a technique it may well work with something small like a bog orchid.
I've seen something similar somewhere before but can't remember where.
      All a bit rambling.

        Re: Hydrangea

I like these Duncan, and I like the idea of the triptych, and a couple of things to add as ideas would be

1: if you make a reflection on the bottom of each one. or
2: with a beveled border to make the effect of each one look like they were a standout from the background.

Just a couple of ideas, for someone with good photoshop skills (not me ) they could turn this into a very nice standout to hang on a wall.
